Anti-lock Braking System ABS
We first introduced this revolutionary system over 25 years ago. It enables the vehicle's manoeuvrability and driving stability to be maintained during heavy braking, by preventing the wheels locking.
Traction Control Systems (TCS)
1987 saw a further improvement in vehicle control and safety - we introduced TCS. It stabilises the vehicle and prevents wheels from spinning under a variety of conditions: braking with near-side and off-side wheels on different surfaces, hard acceleration, or driving in slippery conditions. TCS is always combined with an ABS system.
Electronic Stability Programme (ESP)
ESP is our latest development. It is a closed loop system that prevents the lateral instability that can cause a vehicle to slide or spin out of control - keeping the driver in control and the vehicle on the road.
Electronic Stability Control or Vehicle Dynamics Control is a closed-loop control system which prevents lateral instability of the vehicle. While ABS prevents wheel lockup when braking, and ASR prevents spin of the wheels whilst driving, ESP prevents the vehicle "pushing out" or spinning out of the bend when it is steered. Bosch was the first to introduce ESP in 1995.
