Alternators for passenger cars – Ahead of the rest in performance and efficiency

Bosch has over 90 years‘ experience in the development and manufacture of alternators. A lead in know-how that is extrem- ely beneficial – to motorists and vehicle manufacturers alike. Excellent examples of our competence and innovative ability are our Baseline, Midline and Highline generators for passenger cars. With this range of generators Bosch covers a wide range of applications, offering solutions to match every requirement.

Alongside their impressive power-outputs, our generators display convincingly high efficiency and economy. With a degree of efficiency that has been increased by over 70 %, both fuel consumption and emissions are reduced. By com- parison with their predecessors, up to 0.5 liter of fuel can be saved per 100 km driven, as measured in a real driving cycle. In order to achieve comparable savings by reducing the weight of the vehicle, a reduction of over 250 kg would be needed.

Baseline alternators – The most favorable solution for the lower power-output range

Bosch has developed its Baseline alternators specially for automobiles with low electrical energy requirements. These sturdy, compactly-built alternators are mainly used on Asian and Latin American markets and in small cars. Because their operation and power output is precisely matched to their requirements.

With two sizes and a total of five power-output classes, our Baseline alternators cover the power requirement range between 1.0 and 1.5 kW. A speed of 6,000 rpm gives a rated current of between 70 and 110 Amperes. These alternators thus provide adequate energy for the reliable, efficient supply of small-car electrical systems with a relatively small number of electrical loads.



Midline alternators – Tailor-made for the medium power range

The prime considerations during the development of the Midline alternators were the reliable supply of power for the vehicle’s electrical loads together with a reduction in fuel consumption and emissions. The result: powerful alternators with increased efficiency and extremely compact dimensions.

Midline alternators are designed for the power range between 1.1 and 2.2 kW, corresponding to a rated current of 80 to 155 A at 6,000 rpm. Here the performance, efficiency and reliability of the four sizes with a total of four power-output classes come into their own. Two of these poweroutput classes can also be supplied as noise-optimized versions. The reduction in noise level of 5 dB ensures an enhancement of driving comfort without any loss of performance.

Highline alternators – The first choice for high power requirements

The increasing number of safety and comfort functions in today’s vehicles and the associated higher requirement for electrical energy calls for new solutions – for Highline alternators with increased performance to reliably supply energy even to extremely complex electrical networks with a large number of electrical consumers.

With power outputs of up to 3.8 kW and rated currents of up to 276 A at 6,000 rpm, our Highline alternators push forward into a previously unachieved power class. The innovative stator design with flat-core winding (flat-pack technology) and a high copper fill factor of 65% have made this possible. These alternators are in a position to supply even high-power vehicle networks with the energy they require.
